As an advocate of female law enforcement officers, Dave encourages women in law enforcement to reflect on their successes and look toward a bright and rewarding future in policing.
"Of all the challenges faced by women in law enforcement one of the most insidious is the negative effect of unwanted or unneeded help. The help that assumes the individual is unable to perform a task without some form of help.
"When I first took over firearms training in the Academy, women cadets were told to buy grip stregthening devices while nothing was said to the men. The implication, though unspoken, was that women were too weak to shoot. It was presented as "help" but it set the women up to fail if they bought into the implied meaning...you are weak!!"
To combat this kind of implication it is imperative you understand the focus of control, the center of your life's control, is not in others, but in yourself!
